Grad School Digest: July 29–August 30

Hey, UW grad student! We’re starting off this Digest with a few resources and ideas if you’re seeking funding: 

GFIS is a good resource to help you strategize about your funding search. Their specialty is in the how of finding funding. They have drop-in appointments or you can email them to schedule a one-on-one. They also have an online resource guide and a blog updated regularly with funding opportunities. You can subscribe to their blog here.

The Graduate School’s Office of Fellowships and Awards is a great resource if you are interested in applying to any of the fellowships on their list of fellowships. They can help you prepare a strong application.

Your academic department, faculty advisors and peers are the best place to explore what sources of funding will be the best fit.

You might also find this blog post about finding funding option’s outside of your departments’ TA/RA positions to be helpful.

Seattle: SafeCampus Violence Prevention and Response Training

Seattle // UW Tower // Wednesday, August 7 // 2–3:30 p.m.

A 90-minute training about campus resources, warning signs of violence and response options when you are concerned for your safety or someone else’s safety. The training will include a discussion of relationship violence, stalking, sexual harassment, suicide and a brief portion on bystander intervention strategies. Register. This workshop will also be offered on August 21.

Awards ranging from $3,000–$1,000 to honor open a Latinx person who has completed a dissertation as part of a doctoral degree program in the social sciences, broadly defined, and/or anyone whose dissertation research conducted as part of a doctoral degree program in the social sciences focuses on the Hispanic community.

American Heart Association: Predoctoral Fellowship 2020

CoMotion Makerspace: Intro to 3D Printing

Geospatial Epidemiology Postdoctoral Fellowship – Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Seattle, Wash.

The fellowship will focus on geospatial analyses of HPV vaccine data. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to pursue independent research and publications in addition to the main project for this fellowship, in research areas such as HPV-attributable cancer epidemiology, HPV vaccine immunoepidemiology, and immunogenetics of HPV-related cancers.
