Summer Camp Counselor Volunteer Opportunity w/Wing Luke Museum

Sharing this volunteer camp counselor opportunity with the Wing Luke Museum for their 2024 Summer Camp season! The Wing Luke is hoping to cultivate a welcoming and affirming experience for this year’s campers and are looking for the following qualities:

  • High school aged or older. There is no age limit: we are looking for folks who are mature, accountable, and open to working with kids and other prospective counselors!
  • Experience with caring for children, such as babysitting
  • Strong interest in teaching art, working with children from a wide range of ages, and helping children explore cultures
  • Must be willing to complete an interview & fill out a background check

Prospective counselors must commit to at least 1 of the following weeks along with an orientation/training: July 22-July 26, July 29-August 2, and/or August 5-9. Hours are 9:00am-4:30pm with breaks. See website for camp themes.

As a reminder, counselors receive volunteer benefits alongside 35-40 qualifying service hours. This includes free admission for a year, discounts in our Marketplace, and more!

Call for Summer Camp Counselors – 2024

Position: Summer Camp Counselor
Description: The Wing Luke Museum is looking for friendly and helpful volunteers to be summer camp counselors. Volunteers must commit to volunteering for duration of at least one 5-day program (Week 1: Camp Bruce Lee July 22nd-26th, Week 2: Feasts & Flavors: A C-ID Food Camp July 29th-Aug 2nd, and/or Week 3: Make Your Own Museum August 5th-9th). Counselors assist the education specialist and teaching artists with arts and crafts that help students ages 6-12 explore how to express themselves. The camps are day programs with no evening or overnight hours. More information about summer camp can be found at wingluke.org/summercamp.


About the museum: Wing Luke Museum is the nation’s only pan-Asian American & Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander Museum, located in Seattle’s Chinatown-International District neighborhood. Our mission is “to connect everyone to the dynamic history, cultures, and art of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders through vivid storytelling and inspiring experiences to advance racial and social equity.”
Schedule:

  • Must commit to volunteering for:
    o At least 1 of the following 3 weeks: July 22-July 26, July 29-Aug 2, and/or August 5-9
    o Hours 9:00am-4:30pm with breaks
  • Must commit to single-day orientation before the camp. Orientation dates to be determined.
    Tasks:
  • Assist education specialist and teaching artists with art activities.
  • Leading movement activities and field games.
  • Supervise and interact with children ages 6-12 years.
  • Identify and respond to camper behavior issues.
  • Know, enforce, and follow all safety guidelines associated with the camp program.
  • Set up and clean up after sessions.
    Qualifications:
  • Experience caring for children (for example, babysitting).
  • Strong interest in teaching art, working with children from a wide range of ages, and helping children explore cultures.
  • Ability to start and complete projects.
  • Strong sense of responsibility.
  • Passion for the Wing Luke Museum’s mission.
  • Confirmed applicants will be asked to pass a background check.
