Ben Packard, MSW, from our School of Social Work, invites you to join in a lobby day in Olympia this Friday! If you’ve ever been curious about policy, legislative, or lobbying work, this is an awesome opportunity to get some experience.
Here is an invitation from Ben:
This Friday we are going to the Capitol in Olympia! I realize this is short notice, but Friday is the first legislative cutoff, and we want to get some bills over the finish line! Plus, we will be joining forces with our colleagues at the Washington Mental Health Counselors Association for their lobby day.
If you want to come, please fill out this form. Our lobbyist will try to schedule meetings with your State reps!
We will be arriving in Olympia by 9 am, and departing at 3 pm. Please bring food and water for yourselves!
One bill we hope to see pass is HB 1589. I will be testifying today in the House Health committee in support. The bill will require insurance carriers to negotiate with providers in good faith and will provide protections from common insurance practices, like payment denials and clawbacks. We expect if this bill passes that more providers will be willing to accept insurance, more patients will be able to access care, and clinicians will be better able to support themselves and their families.
If you want to send a comment to your rep’s right now on this bill, you can right here!
