VA Mental Health Fellowship Opportunity- App Deadline 02/17

The VA San Diego Healthcare System/University of California San Diego Interprofessional Fellowship in Psychosocial Rehabilitation & Recovery Oriented Services (“PSR Fellowship”) is currently recruiting for 1-2 social work fellow positions for the 2022-23 training year. We provide one year of paid, full-time, intensive training on psychosocial rehabilitation (PSR) services for Veterans diagnosed with serious mental illness, primarily psychotic disorders. Our interdisciplinary fellowship (we also recruit psychology, vocational rehabilitation, and chaplaincy fellows) has earned the American Psychological Association Division 18 President’s Excellence in Training Award.

PSR fellows work primarily at the VA San Diego’s Center of Recovery Education (CORE), an award-winning CARF-accredited psychosocial rehabilitation program with an energetic and committed interdisciplinary team of staff and trainees who provide an impressive menu of evidence-based and innovative PSR services in a positive team culture. They also complete a rotation on our inpatient psychiatry unit. Fellows spend approximately 65-80% of their time conducting clinical work under the supervision of licensed social workers and psychologists, up to 20% on a scholarly project, and 15% in didactics and training activities. Our fellows have consistently ranked the program very positively and many have gone on to satisfying careers in the VA and elsewhere.

The deadline for social work applicants is February 17, 2022. The fellowship and application details are in the attached brochure, which is also available on our website. Fellows must have earned their MSW before starting the fellowship at the end of August 2022.

Please forward this email to any students who may be interested. I would be happy to answer any questions they may have via email at dimitri.perivoliotis@va.gov.
