TA Opportunity with the UW Dept of Pharmacy

The Department of Pharmacy is hiring a Teaching Assistant for a 9-month position (Aut/Win/Spr) for PHRMCY 536, 531, and 532—all part of our Pharmacotherapeutics course series. Please review the attached position description.

PHRMCY 536 – Pharmacotherapeutics VI (AUT)

PHRMCY 531 – Pharmacotherapeutics I (WIN)

PHRMCY 532 – Pharmacotherapeutics II (SPR)

Position:  Graduate Student Teaching Assistant (TA)

Department: Pharmacy

FTE: 50% FTE or 20 hours per week (220 hours per quarter)

Academic Quarter(s): Autumn 2024, Winter 2025, and Spring 2025

General Duties/Description:

Pharmacotherapeutics is a 7-course series which is a critical component of the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program curriculum. This course series provides a foundation in knowledge for patient-centered clinical case management. This TA position supports 3 of the courses in this series.

PHRMCY 536 Fall Quarter | Dr. Shelly Gray

Provides a foundation in knowledge for patient-centered clinical case management. Includes assessment and pharmacotherapeutic management of issues related to gender-related health and care, reproductive health, geriatrics, rheumatological diseases, and diseases affecting the urological, dermatological and ophthalmic systems. Prerequisite: PHRMCY 535. Offered: A.

PHRMCY 531 Winter Quarter | Dr. Mary Hebert

First course in a 7-course series providing a foundation in knowledge for patient-centered clinical case management. Includes introduction to pharmacotherapeutics and special populations, over-the-counter medications and self-care. Offered: W.

PHRMCY 532 Spring Quarter | Dr. Brian Werth

Second course in a 7-course series providing a foundation in knowledge for patient-centered clinical case management. Includes assessment and management of drug-related hypersensitivity and various bacterial, fungal, and viral infectious diseases. Prerequisite: PHRMCY 531. Offered: Sp.

TA Responsibilities Include:

  • Total work hours per week = 20 hours
  • Support coursemaster in organizing course material, setting up course website on UW Canvas, managing recordings (if applicable).
  • Support coursemaster with class-wide communication, including responding to general student inquiries.
  • Assist with grading.
  • Managing course website as needed
  • Overseeing weekly office hours and student makeups as needed
  • Attending scheduled course sessions
  • Proctoring assessments as needed

Requirements: Current Masters or PhD student with good communication and organizational skills. Desired – Health Sciences Graduate student or current graduate student with a PharmD degree.

Salary: Salary is commensurate with academic standing, qualifications, and experience. This position is eligible for a full tuition waiver and all benefits of UAW Academic Student Employees. This position is paid at the Department of Pharmacy Regular (Non-Variable) rate (see salary charts here).
