Event Services Assistant – deadline 01/03/14

Students in this position will work with EVS staff and other senior student employees to provide set up and support of equipment for meetings and events in the HUB. EVS assistants make sure that customers’ needs are met in terms of room set-up and that rooms are clean and presentable for customers. Students will also be trained on the proper set up and operation of HUB audio-visual equipment

Duties/Responsibilities:
• Assist with the daily operations of the Reservations and Event Services office as it pertains to room set-ups, cleaning of meeting rooms, and equipment set-ups
• Work from a complex set of directions, including diagrams and daily room schedules both independently and in teams to complete room sets in a timely manner.
• Set up and operate audio-visual equipment as it pertains to use in the HUB
• Perform comprehensive room checks and report any problems to supervisory staff

Physical Abilities:
• This is a highly physical position that may require bending/twisting at the waist, kneeling, and the ability to reach/work above one’s head
• Must be able to lift a 50 pounds
• Must be able to use fine motor skills for working with cables and other equipment connections
• Some work with ladders/lifts may be required

Skills/Qualifications:
Minimum:
• Must be a UW enrolled student in at least 6 undergraduate or 4 graduate credits and be in good standing.
• Punctual and respectful of other team members
Desired:
• Exceptional customer services and communication skills
• Ability to work independently and in teams.
• Ability to perform job functions with or without direct supervision

Preferred:
• Knowledge of audio-visual equipment.
• Experience running live sound
• Experience with event management

Skills to be Gained/Enhanced:
• Time Management, Customer Service, Problem-Solving, Technical Troubleshooting, Unit-Specific Skills

Training/Orientation:
Mandatory:
• Student HUB Employee Orientation (Fall Quarter)
• Asbestos Online Training (yearly), Online Training Modules TBD, Quarterly Student Development sessions TBD.
• Additional training sessions may be required. You will be given advance notice of new training sessions as they are scheduled.
– Due to the amount of training required for this position we ask that applicants be able to work for a minimum of 3 consecutive academic quarters

Additional requirements:
• This position requires adherence to both fixed and variable schedules
• Applicants must be able to work a minimum of 10 hours per week
• Weekend, early morning, or late night shifts may be required.
• Regular access to e-mail and myUW is required
