Merrueshi Village Clinic
Located over two hours from Nairobi and one hour from the district hospital, the clinic provides essential medical care to the local rural communities. Merrueshi Village Clinic is providing basic healthcare services to nearly 5000 Maasai residents of Merrueshi and the neighboring communities. Apart from basic healthcare services, the village clinic has a strong emphasis on village hygiene, health education, disease prevention, treatment, vaccination and nutritional education for mothers and their children.
Under the mentorship of Carey Farquhar M.D. we are seeking a full-time graduate student or medical resident to work with the Merrueshi Village Clinic for 6-8 weeks beginning September 2017. Participants will work closely with and partner with the existing clinic staff to develop and implement systems to address the primary health needs of the Maasai community. Mentorship will be provided prior to and during the experience with the goal that lasting relationships and health systems will be implemented.
A $4000 award from the DGH GO Health fund will be provided to assist with travel and living expenses while in Merrueshi Village, Kenya.

Dr. Farquhar will contact interested students/trainees and select a recipient for the experience. The recipient must be available for the DGH Pre-Departure Orientation that will take place Sunday, May 7, 10a-5p on UW Seattle campus.
*dates of travel may be flexible so please indicate your availability for a 6-8 week project in Kenya.
