Elizabeth Gregory Home (EGH) is a University District Street Medicine (UDSM) site that is seeking to develop a regular list of volunteers for an outreach clinic. EGH serves unhoused women with a day center, transitional housing, and case management. UDSM seeks to support their strong program by offering on-site limited medical services to womxn seeking support and referrals.

Volunteer opportunities will be a goal of twice per month, on Sundays from 9:00 AM until 12:00 PM. All volunteers for this site must identify as womxn due to the restrictions at this site. This is a wonderful and rewarding place to volunteer regularly, with staff that know the womxn they serve well, and long term relationships. Please respond with interest 🙂

Additionally, we are looking for one additional women-identifying leader to serve as a co-outreach manager along with Kendall. This would require committing to attending one outreach clinic per month and helping to coordinate the preceptor and volunteers.

If you are interested in volunteering or have any questions, you can email Mary Mathison at mmathis@uw.edu.

The Gold Humanism Honor Society, is launching a new and exciting Veteran’s Health Initiative. The aim of the initiative is to bring awareness to the unique health needs for the Veteran population, while providing medical students and clinicians with the tools and resources to address those needs.

To introduce this project, they are now recruiting medical and health profession student Veterans, Service Members, and HPSP scholars to participate in the creation of a video highlighting our student Veterans and military service members. They will compile interviews via recorded Zoom meetings, and you can choose to participate with video or audio based on preference. The final video will be hosted on the Gold Humanism Honor Society webpage.

They aim to touch on the following themes:

  • Who is a Veteran & what does it mean to be a Veteran?
  • What are ways to serve in military medicine?
  • Who is an HPSP Scholar & why did you choose military medicine?
  • Why is military service important as it relates to medical care and health?
  • Why is it important to ask about military service in the medical appointment?

If you are interested in participating in our video, please sign up for a Zoom time slot here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0D4FA4A829AAF8C61-veterans.

Remote learning during the COVID-19 school closures can be challenging for all students. Imagine not having access to a computer or internet at home and trying to keep up with school. SPS has been deploying district laptops, donated devices and hotspots to thousands of households in need. However, we know that many families need computer and web navigation coaching so their students can take advantage of online learning.

Will you volunteer from home to support the SPS Family Tech Support Helpline? Visit https://bit.ly/families_tech_help to sign up for a shift today!

Volunteer role:

  • Receive calls from SPS families seeking help with technology and remote learning resources.
  • Use a provided resource guide to assist parents and guardians of SPS students. We anticipate most challenges to be related to basic computer and internet set up, and/or accessing online learning tools (Schoology, Student Portal, the Source).
  • Enter more challenging issues into an online Support Request Log – they will be addressed by a specialized tech support team.
  • The helpline will also save voicemails from families – they will need to be entered into the Support Request Log as well.
  • Volunteers will be supported by a project coordinator who will connect you with online resources and answer questions.

What you will need: phone (your number will be not be shared with callers), internet connection, computer or another device that allows you to access a web browser.

Volunteer from the comfort and safety of your home AND enjoy connecting with fellow Seattleites!

  • Visit https://bit.ly/families_tech_help to pick one or more shifts.
  • Two-hour volunteer shifts are available every weekday 7:30 am – 7:30 pm to give as many volunteers the opportunity to help as possible and for families with different work schedules to be able to reach the helpline.
  • Not sure if this is the right volunteer match for you? Try one shift and pick more up later!

What type of skills are needed for this role?

  • Be comfortable with computers as a user. No advanced technology knowledge is needed. Knowledge of SPS resources like Schoology or the Source is a plus but not necessary.
  • Be a patient and clear communicator.
  • Be open to learning about the technology barriers faced by different communities.
  • If you are nervous about communicating via phone “live” but still want to help, let us know! In a week or so we will know which shifts are heavier on “transcribing voicemails”.

Public Health – Seattle & King County is developing their roster of volunteers (healthcare professionals and general support volunteers) who may be available in the coming weeks to assist in the COVID-19 response. A variety of needs exist depending on your specific skill sets and availability.

Public Health is looking for people who can help full and part time, including weekends. At this time, there is no option to work remotely, any assignment would be at a specified location. Training, insurance, parking and snacks/meals would be provided.

If you may be able to assist, please click here to complete their brief survey and provide your information. They will contact if you if they have specific needs you can support.

If you have questions, please email Hmac.03@kingcounty.gov. Be aware that they are receiving a high volume of emails so responses may not be immediate. Thank you for your continued support of our community.
