Dear MSW Students,

Dear EDP Students:

I wanted to let you know that students working with young children have another option for the required Soc Wk 571. If you are working with young children you can substitute 571 for IECMH-NURS 555 Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Relationship Based Assessment Course offered in winter quarter.  This class is on-line. Attached is the course description.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Best,

Maureen

Dear SSW students,

I am very happy to announce that the application process to the Specialization in Practice with Latinas and Latinos Program is now open!
First Year Students, Advanced Standing Students and Students in EDP entering their 2nd year–Apply Now!     Deadline is April 18!

If you have a commitment to Latinx communities and if you want to grow and strengthen your practice skills in engaging Latinx individuals and communities, then consider applying to the Specialization in Practice with Latinas and Latinos Program in the SSW.

You do NOT have to be Latinx or speak Spanish to participate.  Students from all concentrations in the SSW are welcomed!

The application process is very straightforward.  To apply please email a 2-3 page cover letter and your current CV to Gino Aisenberg at: ginoa@uw.edu

In your cover letter, you must 1) indicate the reasons you are applying to the Specialization in Practice with Latinas and Latinos program and 2) specify experiences (e.g., personal, volunteer, work, family) that highlight your commitment to Latinx communities.

You will be notified of a decision regarding acceptance into this program no later than April 30th.

If you have questions regarding the program, feel free to email me.

I encourage to contact immediately Aida Wells, Field Faculty, at: aida@uw.edu with regards to practicum experiences available to students in the Specialization program.

I look forward to receiving your applications by April 18th and learning of your passion to work with Latinx individuals, families, organizations, and communities and your commitment to the Specialization Program!

Hi Everyone –

We hope your quarter is going well. We know that this time of quarter (and year!) can be a particularly stressful time for students with homework, practicum placements, and all of the other things that make our lives complicated.

We wanted to let you know that there are resources available to you. In particular, we want to highlight our handout on Counseling Resources for Students, which includes both campus and community free, low-cost and sliding scale options. That handout and other resources may be found at: http://socialwork.uw.edu/node/4339

As always, if you’re under so much stress that you’re feeling like you may need to adjust your schedule, you can always email Lin (linm@uw.edu), Kelly (hoeftk05@uw.edu), or Bilen for EDP students (bilenm@uw.edu) to discuss your options.

Invitation to be part of working group of a GPSS Ad-Hoc committee for Fee-Based Programs

A lot of programs are fee based programs, or are being transitioned into fee based programs. As this is a unique graduate school experience, there has been interest in talking about issues of fee base program. A couple years ago there was a trend to turn state base programs to fee based programs, and programs would just transition to fee base without any specific criteria. There should be criteria for creating fee base programs and the task of this committee is to draw up guidelines for this.

If you are in a fee-based program and are interested in joining the committee, please email me: meixi@uw.edu

Thank you,

Meixi Ng and your GPSS Senators
