SSW students, consider attending this student-organized conference that is also curated for social work students.

Our annual Anti-Racism and Community Health (ARCH) Conference is on May 17th in which public health professionals discuss how we can combat white supremacy culture. Because many therapists and social workers are curated speakers for the event, we think it would be a great opportunity to share with your MSW and undergraduate students. If possible, could you please share this blurb and/or flyer?

“The RSO Students of Color for Public Health (SCPH) is excited to announce that our 2025 Anti-Racism and Community Health (ARCH) Conference will be on Saturday May 17th from 10PM-4PM in the Hans Rosling Center. We know our current healthcare system is not built to provide equitable healthcare services for all. With this in mind, our goal is to facilitate a collaborative community health conference to identify and prioritize needs, barriers, and solutions in confronting how racism and white supremacy have caused detrimental health outcomes in our communities.

The conference features a range of public health professionals as speakers, workshop leaders, and panelists who will be speaking on our theme “Empowering Communities: the Power of Public Health Communication.” The theme focuses on collaborating directly with communities to ensure public health initiatives are equitable, culturally responsive, and tackle the urgent issue of disinformation in today’s political climate. Our speakers will address a range of topics, including gender-based violence, empowering the mental health of Black populations, and protecting immigration rights, among others.

Lunch and dessert will be provided, and we’re so excited to see you at the conference. To RSVP and learn more about the theme, speakers, and other questions you might have, please visit scphuw.org/arch-conference]scphuw.org/arch-conference.”

*Important* SSW Graduation 2025

Posted under Graduation on Apr 11, 2025

Dear 2025 Graduating SSW Students –

The UW School of Social Work is excited to honor our 2025 graduates at the Alaska Airlines Arena on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at 7:00pm. We are anticipating a large in-person event (no tickets required). We will also be live-streaming the event that evening.

There is a lot of additional information about the SSW Celebration about next steps, how to RSVP and ask to borrow caps/hoods/gowns, and how to help shape the event for your graduating class.

As for upcoming deadlines/events, please see below for more info about:

  • April 30th SSW RSVP/Survey submission deadline; fill out asap, especially if you’re wanting to borrow a cap/gown/hood. Please fill out the RSVP even if you’re not planning to attend.
  • May 1-19th – Order caps, hoods and gowns (do early – put May 1st on your calendar!) and May 19th deadline to register for UW Ceremony. More info here.
  • May 28th-June 1st – Pick up caps/gowns/hoods at UW BookStore
  • June 12th – SSW Graduation Celebration at 7pm (students arrive by 6pm)
  • June 14th – UW Commencement at 1:30pm (students arrive by 12:30pm)

This is the first of our graduation communications.  It’s a little confusing because you will note that there are different processes for the UW Commencement and the SSW Celebration.  There is a timeline and checklist that will help you navigate through the many dates and deadlines on our SSW Graduation FAQ page.  We’ll also post all of our graduation announcements on that same Canvas page so everything is all in the same place.

And, if you’re finishing all of your degree requirements in June and haven’t requested your degree yet, please review these directions and submit your degree request, run your degree audit and fill out your mandatory exit survey.  Please note that once you submit your degree request, it actually won’t be approved until after spring grades are posted.

Summer 2025 MSW graduating students should follow these instructions beginning June 23rd. PhD students should work with Shirley on finishing all requirements.

Looking forward to celebrating with you soon,

SSO Student Services

Hi MSW Students,

On behalf of Point(Be) and SSW, we would like to invite to you to attend town hall with Point(Be) on Monday, 3/31, 6-7pm PST on Zoom. The town hall will be facilitated by Julia Alvarez (she/her) and Danny Alvarez (they/them) from Point b(e) Strategies. Point(be) have been working with the UW SSW on the development of its 5-year strategic framework.

For the student town hall, the intention is to update students on the planning process to date and share the strategic priorities and guiding principles that are emerging from conversations and engagement with staff, faculty, students, and community partners. There will be discussion or information gathering (depending on the size of the group) to gather reflections on or reactions to the priorities and guiding principles, and to gather student input on what the School should focus on in year 1 of implementation.

For questions, please contact Shirley, sctorres@uw.edu.
