Community College Career Opportunities Panel

Ever thought about teaching at the community college level or wonder how working at a community college might be different than working at other types of educational institutions? Come listen to community college professors and administrators describe their positions—the work environment, responsibilities, students, and more. Serving in the Peace Corps is a great way to immerse yourself in a new culture, learn a new language, and have the experience of a lifetime. Join us at the info session on Thursday, October 24 from 6-7pm in Thomson 125 to hear about real Volunteer experiences, get your questions answered, and gain tips to guide you through the application process.

Jumpstart Seattle at the University of Washington is accepting applications for the 2013-2014 Academic Year!!!

Jumpstart is an early literacy program that connects college students as tutors & mentors with 3-5 year old preschool children from low-income neighborhoods. Read stories, sing songs and play games that support young children’s school readiness skills. Undergraduates work 8-12 hours a week on a team of UW students in local Seattle preschools.

Benefits Include: Earn $11/ hour for work-study students, earn a $1,175 scholarship for serving 300 hours, earn academic credit, gain valuable skills and experience, meet other UW students, and make a difference in the life of a child! Read more

Interested in study abroad?  Please join a Gilman International Scholarship Alumna for a presentation with information about this scholarship for study and internships abroad.  The presentation will take place in the Paccar Hall, room 391 from 3:30-4:30 on September 4 and will cover information on the Gilman Scholarship and how to create a competitive application. The Gilman Scholarship program offers grants for U.S. citizen undergraduate students of limited financial means to pursue academic studies or credit-bearing, career-oriented internships abroad.

Interested in joining or learning more about Peace Corps? Please join us for a “Peace Corps Through the Decades” panel that will be taking place this Wednesday, March 6th 6:00pm-7:30pm in Thomson 125.

We will have Peace Corps history covered and the panel will consist of returned volunteers who have served in the 1960’s to volunteers who recently arrived back home. The volunteers on the panel have served in Africa, South America, and in the South Pacific and been involved in projects focused on health education, environmental awareness, and community economic development. It will be an interesting opportunity to learn more about the history of Peace Corps, how things have changed, and how things have remained the same. We can compare successes, challenges, and entertaining stories. Intrigued? Please join us!

As announced at the Concentration Information Session last Friday, we wanted to inform you again about the conversation with Community-centered Integrative Practice Concentration faculty, students and PIs.  This conversation is intended to provide a fuller view of the concentration courses, pathways to integrating classroom, field and professional-personal commitments, and to inform concentration choices.

The UW Libraries and the Graduate School partner in presenting information pertinent to publishing your Electronic Thesis or Dissertation (ETD). The webinar will cover important topics such as publishing your work, copyright basics, open access, delayed release options, and ProQuest/UMI and university publication agreements. An overview of the ETD submission, review, and approval process will also be covered. Participants will have an opportunity to submit questions to panelists.
