Mandy Macklin, Ph.D. (she/her)

Mandy is Director of the Odegaard Writing & Research Center (OWRC) and an Affiliate Assistant Professor in the Department of English at the University of Washington, Seattle. Mandy earned her Ph.D. in English (Language & Rhetoric) from the University of Washington, Seattle and M.A. (Rhetoric and Composition) and B.A. (English Literature) from California State University, Northridge. Mandy specializes in writing studies, rhetorical theory, genre studies, and writing program administration.

Mandy’s work focuses on supporting writing across differences and developing practices that support writers as they negotiate between writing situations, as they assess and adapt to varying demands across the disciplines, and as they translate across writing situations using their writing-related knowledge or repertoires of resources that they have cultivated along the multiple pathways they create and traverse daily. Previously, Mandy served as Assistant Director of the Center for Teaching & Learning and Teaching Faculty at Antioch University Seattle. As Director of the OWRC, Mandy creates and executes the OWRC’s long-term plans and projects, oversees the OWRC’s curriculum, and facilitates relationships with faculty, academic departments and other support services at UW.
