Among a cohort of 523 patients hospitalized with COVID-19 from January 2 to February 15, 2020 in China, malnutrition was associated with higher risk of in-hospital death (OR=1.2) and higher risk of poor outcome in the ICU (OR=1.9). After adjustment for age and sex, low BMI and low protein level were also significantly associated with higher risks of severe outcomes. Malnutrition in this study was evaluated by the Nutrition Risk in Critically Ill Score and the Nutritional Risk Screening score.
