PEMM Curriculum

For students interested in a career that requires both technical and business acumen, PEMM offers a two-year concurrent degree program, leading to receipt of MBA (Masters in Business Administration) and MSE (Master of Science in Engineering) degrees.

Students begin the rigorous PEMM curriculum with the MBA core requirements. The core, which takes the first year to complete, integrates modules in accounting, ethics, finance, law, marketing, and operations management into three coordinated classes. In addition to the core, students attend a year-long PEMM seminar that introduces them to manufacturing research and local businesses. As part of the seminar, students tour technology companies such as Physio-Control and Intermec and listen to speakers from, for example, Boeing and the National University of Singapore.

During their second year, PEMM students take required business and engineering courses that focus on different aspects of manufacturing - operations strategy, systems analysis, NC and CAM, supply chain management, and environmental risk assessment. Students also have the opportunity to customize their education by choosing from a wide selection of business and engineering electives. Near the end of their second year, students begin work on their masters thesis, which they complete the following summer.
