DNA Methods to Estimate Hybridization between Native Westslope Cutthroat Trout and Introduced Trout

Project ID: 132108J001

Federal Agency: U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service

Partner Institution: Washington State University

Fiscal Year: 2008

Initial Funding: $40,000

Total Funding: $40,000

Project Type: Research

Project Disciplines: Biological

Abstract: Scientifically defensible DNA methods which can be performed in standard fisheries laboratories will be developed for estimating genetic admixture proportions of native westslope cutthroat trout and introduced trout species in natural populations where historical hybridization is detected. DNA protocols will be developed and standardized at both the population level and individual fish level.
