Abstract: Funding listed is total funding including any modifications.
Establish Cultural and Historical Ecosystem Service Mapping for a national forest in Region 10.
The project seeks to understand how ecosystem service mapping may be explored and
documented with respect to multiple cultural frames, through time, and relevant to pertinent
ecosystem services. This agreement outlines a plan to assess an existing database of interviews
and narratives, through an ecosystem service lens, and identify categorization, and stages of
information gathering that are conducive to cultural ecosystem service mapping. Design and
conduct a study of one national forest in Region 10 that is actively engaged in ecosystem service
provision and assessment, and collect and analyze historical baseline information from diverse
cultural sources. The project involves close collaboration with resource managers from USFS
Region 10, Tribes, and the selected national forest.
