Abstract: The goal for this research project is to improve statewide surface water mapping in Alaska and to perform hydrography editing as efficiently as possible without duplication. Objectives include:
• Coordinate and prioritize hydrography updates throughout Alaska.
• Provide outreach, training and materials to hydrography editors in Alaska.
• Work with different mapping bodies and groups to coordinate hydrography activities with other mapping activities.
• Support coordination with the US Fish and Wildlife Service to include National Wetlands Inventory (NWI) updates in the planning process.
• Support coordination of harmonization of Canada and US hydrography data to ensure data compatibility to support NHDPlus High Resolution generation.
• Coordinate with National USGS NHD program to ensure work in Alaska meets national standards and program priorities in support of the National Hydrography Dataset, the Watershed Boundary Dataset, and NHDPlus High Resolution data.
• Support development of content collection specifications that will be used by editing entities to meet an approved statewide minimum content standard.
• Maintain, update and administer the Alaska Hydrography Database.
• Perform QA/QC on all submitted data to ensure that it is ready for NHD updates.
• Provide technical support for hydrography editors.
• Ensure that the AK Hydro database and NHD database interact correctly and are current.
Develop a comprehensive statewide Hydrography Acquisition and Implementation Plan for Alaska that will detail the plans to complete hydrography updates in Alaska.
