Abstract: An initiative was launched in 2004 to create unit-wide, annotated, satellite image maps for all Alaska National Park units. The project is a collaboration between the NPS Alaska Region I&M Landcover Mapping Program, and the Alaska Regional Office GIS Team. Maps have been completed for seven of the 16 units administered by NPS in the Alaska Region. Under this task agreement NPS will collaborate with St Mary’s University to produce additional satellite image maps for Alaska National Parks. This project will be conducted in multiple phases. Phase 1 work will result in production of a satellite image map for Gates of the Arctic National Park and Preserve. If phase 1 work is successful, NPS will modify this task agreement to include all the remaining NPS units that do not have completed Satellite Image Maps. Phase 2 is contingent on the availability of funding and satisfactory completion of Phase 1 work.
