Abstract: The goal of this project is to develop and implement a research program that expands available information and understanding of the role of Japanese knotweed in riparian areas and provides a scientific foundation for strategic management plans to control the species. A specific project goal is to reconstruct population expansion of knotweed within the Skagit River corridor and to identify populations that pose the greatest potential for continued growth. Additionally, NOCA is interested in the ecological impacts of Japanese knotweed on components of native ecosystems and how quickly control methods can reverse these effects.
