Abstract: In 2005-2007, the Klamath Network Inventory and Monitoring Program will be conducting a wetlands inventory in Lassen Volcanic and Crater Lake National Parks. From these data, the Network would like to provide funding to scientists at Oregon State University to develop a wetland vegetation classification to guide the development of vegetation maps in each park. The classification work will follow standard techniques for multivariate analysis and will closely complement the Wetland Inventory and Functional Assessment Project, thereby increasing its impact. The funding will allow support for a graduate student to analyze data from the wetland assessment project to develop the wetland vegetation classification and draft map. The graduate student, Cheryl Bartlett, is currently the lead botanist on the Wetlands Assessment Project, so she will bring essential field insights to the classification project. This will be the initial project in a comprehensive strategy under development for vegetation mapping in the two parks and the network as a whole.
