Abstract: Objective(s): The Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument has one of the highest diversities of butterflies in North America. This biodiversity is one of the reasons for the creation of this monument. This project will support the protection or resource objects of importance as outlined by the monument proclamation. The primary goal of this project is to assess the population trends of butterflies in the monument so that management decisions can be based on known trends and condition assessments. The impacts of this program are landscape-level in scope and are essential in maintaining healthy landscapes for wildlife while supporting traditional uses of public lands that provide jobs.
Federal Award Performance Goals
1. Develop sampling frame, frequency, and replication scenarios. Complete GIS for sampling locations and survey stations, including oversamples. Ground truth study design and establish permanent survey stations in the field.
2. Make final field maps, logistics documents, and protocols. Upload survey station locations into Invertebrate Database. A final report will document the study design and field methods. A Manager’s Summary will highlight take-home messages from the report that relate to long-term objectives
