Abstract: Investigators with Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota University and National Park Service (NPS) resource managers will collaborate in conducting a condition assessment of important focal resources at Obed Wild and Scenic River (OBRl) and Shiloh National Military Park (SHIL). Through compilation and synthesis of existing scientific information from multiple sources, and expert judgment from an Interdisciplinary team of specialists, the project collaborators will work together in identifying and defining specific priorities. The project objectives are to: characterize park biological and physical resource conditions at appropriate scales; define threat and stress factors and their relationship to identified resources; identify critical data gaps; and suggest data collection or resource investigations to address those gaps. The project will define resource conditions, threats, and stressors for SHIL and OBED. These factors are evaluated and depicted spatially (to the extent possible) to facilitate use of project findings in a wide variety of park decision and planning processes. The project will occur in three phases, and allows for the dynamic development of the project framework for each park. A project report for each park will be publicly available and will be an important resource to the scientific community, resource managers and the public in understanding current natural resource conditions at OBRI and SHIL.
