Abstract: The objective of this Cooperative Agreement is to update baseline data on the customary and traditional uses of fish and wildlife by residents of Buckland, AK. Buckland, located on the northern Seward Peninsula, is a predominately Iñupiat community whose subsistence use areas include public lands within Bering Land National Preserve. The primary method of data collection will be a systematic household harvest survey, with supplementary information gathered through mapping and key respondent interviews. Information on Buckland’s subsistence patterns is among the most out of date in Arctic Alaska, having last been documented for study year 2003. The National Park Service will have substantial involvement through the Bering Land Bridget National Preserve (BELA) cultural anthropologist’s participation in survey review, datacollection, and review and revision of draft data and reports.
