Abstract: This is a collaborative project between NPS and OSU to conduct three Lepidoptera surveys in CRLA to build on the previous study and expand the body of scientific information on Lepidoptera. The survey information will generate new knowledge about the distribution and relative abundance of Lepidoptera in the Pacific Northwest. Of particular interest is the status of rare species including Leona’s little blue butterfly which was recently reviewed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for listing as endangered and is of particular interest to entomologists. Dr. Christopher J. Marshall, Curator of OSU’s Oregon State Arthropod Collection (OSAC) and faculty member in OSU’s Department of Integrative Biology, will serve as the OSU Principal Investigator. Dana Ross, a contributor to OSAC and a local expert on Lepidoptera with extensive experience surveying and identifying Oregon Lepidoptera both at CRLA and other parts of Klamath County, will be a project participant. In addition to this species, surveys of several butterflies and moths that were newly discovered within CRLA in 2015 are warranted.
