Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow in Environmental Humanities

The Environmental Science and Policy (ENSP) program at William & Mary seeks applications for a two-year postdoctoral scholar position in the Environmental Humanities sponsored by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. The postdoctoral scholar will research human environmental interactions, specifically human centered usewebs in Polynesia, using an interdisciplinary approach with data from archaeological assemblages and anthropological and historical literature and techniques derived from foodweb modeling. This unique position offers the successful candidate an opportunity to use her/his skills to lead cutting-edge research projects and facilitate undergraduate student projects while receiving mentorship in professional academic development. The postdoctoral scholar will also teach one upper-level seminar course per academic year and arrange an environmental speaker series in the second year. A PhD in Anthropology (Archaeology specialty preferred) or a closely related discipline is required by the time of appointment.

The position offers a competitive salary, research and travel funds, and administrative support. The postdoctoral fellow will be mentored by two William & Mary faculty with teaching and research interests in Pacific Island archaeology (Prof. Jennifer Kahn) and Asia-Pacific folklore.

A PhD in Anthropology (Archaeology specialty preferred) or a closely related discipline is required by the time of appointment, August 10, 2019. Teaching expertise/interests at the intersection of the environmental humanities is preferred, but not necessary.

This is a 9-month academic year appointment for two years. Start date is August 10, 2019. To apply, please submit a cover letter and curriculum vitae.
