National Park Service Funding Opportunity: Birmingham Civil Rights National Monument Visitor Use Study

REQUEST FOR STATEMENT OF INTEREST FOR PROJECT TO BE INITIATED THROUGH THE
COOPERATIVE ECOSYSTEM STUDIES UNITS (CESU) NETWORK

PROJECT TITLE: Birmingham Civil Rights National Monument Visitor Use Study

Response to this Request for Statements of Interest will be used to identify potential partners for a research project funded by the National Park Service (NPS). This project will be administered through a CESU upon mutual agreement on the application of the CESU Network IDC rate (17.5%). Total funding available for this study is $52,000.

Birmingham Civil Rights National Monument (BICR) was created in 2017 by presidential proclamation to commemorate, preserve, and interpret the dramatic events and struggle for human and civil rights played out in Birmingham in the 1950s and 1960s. BICR contains a collection of buildings and places that stand as a reminder of the violent opposition to integration. These places became a battleground for freedom during nonviolent protests that came to a head in 1963 and directly influenced the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
