Abstract: The National Park Service and the University of Washington will collaborate in the development of a Special History Study for the newly created Lewis and Clark National Historical Park located in the Columbia-Pacific region of Washington and Oregon. This document will identify historic contexts and themes relevant to the properties and lands now encompassed by his new national park unit designation, and identify properties associated with these themes that may be eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places. National Register nominations will be prepared as part of this phased project. Should funding become available for the entire project and all of its requisite phases, it will include historical research, synthesis of materials into a readable
narrative history, an inventory of associated properties (buildings, structures, sites, objects, districts), and the preparation of National
Register nomination forms for all properties that meet the standards for significance and integrity for National Register listing. This Special History Study will be used by the National Park Service and other land management agencies and partners who collaborate on the management of Lewis and Clark National Historical Park as a reference tool for park interpretive programs and to meet requirements of Section 110 of the National Historic Preservation Act.
