Abstract: This project will contribute to greater public understanding of the cultural significance of the Prairie Creek Fish Hatchery in Redwood National Park by producing a detailed site history analysis, documentation, and evaluation of design proposals that include preservation and rehabilitation strategies of these cultural resources. The final CLR will be publicly available on the NPS Integrated Resource Management Applications (IRMA) web site. This project will also provide valuable hands-on experience in historic preservation documentation to research associates assigned to the project.
Objectives
Investigators from the UO and NPS staff will collaborate to accomplish the following specific objectives:
1. Conduct historical research that identifies changes to the cultural landscape of the Prairie Creek Fish Hatchery during the period of significance and synthesize the results into an illustrated narrative history.
2. Provide documentation of changes to the cultural landscape characteristics and features during and after the period of significance.
3. Develop design proposals for preservation and rehabilitation strategies and convey through narrative and conceptual illustrations.
4. Synthesize these tasks by developing a CLR that will serve as the final report (and meet NPS Cultural Landscape Report standards as outlined in “A Guide to Cultural Landscape Reports: Contents, Process, and Techniques”).
