Abstract: This study will: 1) establish baseline data on soil fungi from alpine and subalpine areas of North Cascades National Park; 2) utilize recently developed molecular methods for identifying microscopic organisms; 3) serve as the foundation for PhD research examining the effects of climate change on alpine fungi; and 4) provide an opportunity for University of Washington graduate and undergraduate students to participate in field research while learning about National Park Service management and science.
