Abstract: The National Park Service requires that all parks within the system conduct baseline studies that describe the ethnographic resource of traditionally associated groups. Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve will conduct an Ethnographic Overview and Assessment for the Huna Tlingit and Dry Bay Tlingit peoples who traditionally occupied park lands. The Ethnographic Overview and Assessment will document the cultural history, traditional cultural practices and relationships with Glacier Bay’s landscape of these two groups. In addition, the study will identify gaps in the record and recommend areas of future research. The study will satisfy National Park Service inventory requirements, be used for planning purposes, assist each group in Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act claims, convey information to park visitors and be used by Huna and Dry Bay Tlingit peoples in cultural preservation efforts.
