Abstract: Project uses scat-detection dogs to locate fisher scats in areas of high probability where fishers have been observed, but not confirmed by photos or other hard evidence, and where the standard camera or track-set protocol is either infeasible or failed to confirm fishers. Scat samples will undergo DNA analysis to sex (and individual, if possible). Agency is actively working to document the distribution, occupancy, and distinct-population segment information for this warranted but precluded species. Results could serve to aid in developing a conservation strategy to preclude listing.
