Abstract:

This project will determine the extent to which 6PPD-quinone contributes acute and sublethal
toxicity in real world mixtures in the environment. The following activities will be conducted:
Acute toxicity testing of collected roadway runoff, tire particle leachate, and 6PPD-quinone and
the same concentration of 6PPD-quinone. Dose-response curves will be developed to directly
compare the toxicity of each treatment. Moribund individuals and survivors will be assessed for
a variety of metrics in a variety of tissues. Assessments will include lethal, pre-lethal, and sub
lethal endpoints. Differences in toxicity from 6PPD-quinone will be explored to determine what
other components of the mixtures contribute additive, synergistic, or antagonistic effects.
