This agreement initially funds Phase 1 work, but may be modified to add future phases, subject to the availability of funding and satisfactory progress of project work.
The Phase 1 objectives are to:
1. Understand the current extent of available material on the history and the national and global significance of Middle Village – Station Camp.
2. Assemble copies of available material on the history and the cultural and historical significance of Middle Village – Station Camp.
3. Conduct additional research to document the time of earliest EuroAmerican contact and trade at Middle Village – Station Camp (ca. 1792-1811), an important but poorly understood period in the village’s history.
4. Professionally evaluate Middle Village – Station Camp’s potential to be included on the National Register of Historic Places and define its period of significance.
5. Present information to park staff and the broader public regarding the history and significance of Middle Village – Station Camp.
The Phase 2 objectives are to:
1. If Middle Village – Station Camp is deemed eligible for the National Register, prepare documentation to be submitted to the Washington Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation and subsequently the Keeper of the National Register.
2. Provide a document to NPS that describes and discusses what cultural information is available for lands adjacent to NPS-owned properties to facilitate future agency discussions with adjacent landowners regarding shared interests and objectives relating to the Middle Village site.
