Abstract: The Klamath Network comprises six National Park Service units in Southern Oregon and Northern California, including Crater Lake National Park, Lava Beds National Monument, Lassen Volcanic National Park, Oregon Caves National Monument, Redwood National and State Parks, and Whiskeytown National Recreation Area. The Klamath Network I&M Program is overseeing the mapping of vegetation in the parks according to National Park Service National Vegetation Mapping and Classification Standards. The Klamath Network proposes to complete vegetation mapping projects at all parks by FY2011. Mapping has yet to commence at Crater Lake, Lava Beds, Oregon Caves, and Redwood National Parks. The Klamath Network will hire a project manager to design and play a central role in the mapping at the first 3 of these parks, and to potentially assist with work at Redwood. The goal will be achieved through the cooperation of National Park staff, contractors, university researchers, NPS Inventory & Monitoring (I&M) Program staff, the National Park Service Fire Program, the National Park Service regional GIS program, the National Park Service National Vegetation Mapping Program, and cooperating agencies and organizations. The first year of work supported by this Task Agreement will focus on developing an implementation plan for the production of the vegetation map and related documentation and descriptions of vegetation classes for Crater Lake, Lava Beds, and Oregon Caves. This plan involves research, scoping meetings with parks, designing the mapping and field methods, determining staffing and subcontractors that will be involved, assigning roles and responsibilities, data management and analysis, and other planning details and project management.
