Abstract: This is a collaboration between the Upper Columbia Basin Network of the National Park Service and the University of Idaho to continue monitoring aspen stands in Craters of the Moon National Monument and Preserve (CRMO). The aspen monitoring protocol was finalized in 2009 and aspen stands in CRMO were previously sampled in 2007 and 2010. In this project, field data will be collected from 21 stands in CRMO, at permanent plot locations previously established. Data will be collected on aspen regeneration, mortality, stand composition, stand structure, and conifer establishment in aspen stands. This Task Agreement provides funding for aspen monitoring at CRMO, but may be modified to add future work for aspen monitoring at City of Rocks National Reserve, subject to the availability of funding and satisfactory progress of project work. Expected products include field data forms, a digital database, data certification form, resource brief, a final report that includes recommendations for field method or database improvements, and a project summary presentation.
