ORWA CESU Year-round Monitoring of Bat Populations in Oregon

Project ID: L19AC00097

Federal Agency: Bureau of Land Management

Partner Institution: Oregon State University

Fiscal Year: 2019

Initial Funding: $49,391

Total Funding: $49,391

Principal Investigator: Rodriguez, Roger

Agreement Technical Representative: VanNorman, Kelly

Abstract: Objective(s): This project leverages collaborative work as directed in the Washington Office
and OR/WA Bureau of Land Management FY19 Annual Work Plan Directives for the L1170 Wildlife Habitat Management Program to address bats by partnering with Federal, State, and private organizations through both the national white-nose syndrome (WNS) strategy and the North American Bat Monitoring (NABat) strategy. With this project the BLM will expand our coordinated bat monitoring as established by our Oregon State Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) partners and it will inform both agencies’ management of actions to conserve and enhance bat populations prior to WNS being detected in Oregon.
Federal Award Performance Goals
1. Selection and establishment of index site locations (with input from regional BLM and state wildlife agency biologists)
2. Interim performance report – including description of analytical methods testing
3. Annual performance report – including description of bat activity metrics based on year-round monitoring
