Abstract: This pilot sociological study involves interviews of selected participants and is designed to assess the range of concerns and issues that employees, gateway communities, and special interest groups have regarding fire ecology and fire management, particularly with regard to smoke management in Yosemite National Park. It will begin the process of ground truthing the premises and messaging of the fire education program and ultimately provide direction for tailoring and redefining its methods. It will also provide and open an avenue of feedback and dialogue between fire management staff and concerned stakeholders and guidance for the design of future research.
