Abstract: This project will complete a study of additional cultural resource information in support of a wide range of interpretive programs, resource management, and to facilitate consultation with tribes historically associated with the park. This project is related to a previous study, “An Ethnohistory Study for John Day Fossil Beds National Monument,” initiated in 2014. That study addresses dynamic relationships between parks and traditionally associated groups as well as systematically evaluating the cultural functions of sites and resources associated with that history. The ethnohistory is a foundational baseline research report, and helps to identify cultural ties among past and present groups that used and may still use or relate to park natural and cultural resources, including museum objects.
