Abstract: The University of Washington’s (UW) Friday Harbor Labs and the National Park Service are cooperating on a project to obtain reliable scientific data on local coastal water quality that can be used to inform a variety of resource management activities. The 2006 Coastal Watershed Assessment for San Juan Island National Historical Park identified the need to establish water quality monitoring protocols in Garrison Bay at English Camp and Jackle’s Lagoon at American Camp. This project is a continuation of a previous Task Agreement in establishing those protocols and collecting baseline data. The project will also serve to engage park staff and visiting students with UW staff in learning to perform water quality monitoring with the Hydrolab sonde and sensors or other equipment.
