Abstract: The University of Washington’s Friday Harbor Labs and the National Park Service are cooperating on a project to obtain reliable scientific data on local coastal water quality that can be used to inform a variety of resource management activities. The 2006 Coastal Watershed Assessment for San Juan Island National Historical Park identified the need to establish water quality monitoring protocols in Garrison Bay at English Camp and Jackle’s Lagoon at American Camp. This project will establish those protocols and begin collecting a baseline data set intended to be continued into future years. The project will also serve to engage park staff and visiting students with University of Washington staff in learning to perform water quality monitoring with the Hydrolab sonde and sensors or other equipment.
