Tattoos aren’t new! Please let your students know there is space available in our course BH 485: “Concepts of the Body in 19th and 20th Century America.”
This course will investigate ideas relating to the corporeal self in nineteenth- and twentieth-century America. Attention will be paid to the evolution of the physical ideals of manliness/femininity, how these ideals related to the surrounding culture, and how different bodily activities developed to realize ideals. Athleticism, physiognomy, phrenology, beauty contests, body building, decorations, cosmetics, and anthropometry will also be considered.
Meets Monday and Wednesday, 9:30 – 10:50 am and the SLN is 10900.
