Pre-Health Mentoring Class for Winter 2016

Attention, Pre-Health Juniors & Seniors!

It’s Not Too Late to Gain Experience and Make a Difference This Quarter

Be a Tutor-Mentor: EDUC 401 F & G

UW’s Academic Support Programs is partnering with SMDEP (Summer Medical and Dental Education Program) this Winter Quarter, 2016, to pair pre-health juniors and seniors with transfer, freshman, and sophomore students who are considering careers in healthcare and are also transitioning socially, culturally, and academically to the UW. This is a great opportunity for seasoned pre-health students to “pay it forward” and share their knowledge and experience with students who need a little extra support at the very start of their academic journeys.

As part of the program, you will participate in a service-learning seminar titled “EDUC 401: Higher Education Tutoring and Mentorship.” This weekly seminar will introduce you to tutoring, mentoring, and teaching methodologies that you will apply to your work with your own mentee. Please note that although we will pair pre-health tutor-mentors with pre-health mentees when possible, our program includes students and tutor-mentors with very diverse interests, including many that are not related to healthcare. If you are committed to mentoring a pre-health student, please note this in your email inquiry.

  •        Seminar meets on Mondays from 3:30-4:50 PM or from 6:00-7:20 PM
  •        Tutoring takes place on campus
  •        Receive 2 credits for working with one student, or 3 credits for working with two students
  •        A letter of recommendation will be available upon request after completion of the seminar
