A recent article from the Guiding Good Choices for Health study has been featured on the NIH research website: New Study Reports High Rates of Anxiety and Depression in 11- to 13-Year-Olds During the COVID-19 Pandemic.

This study reports high rates of anxiety and suicidal ideation, as well as increased depression during the COVID-19 pandemic among early adolescents. The data point to females, Hispanic youth, and Medicaid-insured youth as specific populations of concern. Findings suggest a need to continue to build the mental health workforce and to enhance accessibility to mental health prevention, screening, and intervention services for youth from diverse backgrounds. Doing so could have long-lasting impacts, including improved support for youth who grew up during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as in preparing to support youth who may face future public health and environmental crises.
