Marijuana Legislation and Changes in Youth Marijuana Use and Related Risk Factors

Start Dates: 2014
PI(s): Katarina Guttmannova
Funding: National Institute on Drug Abuse

Project Description

As the national discussion around legalization of marijuana proceeds, there is an urgent need for scientific evidence from timely, carefully implemented studies informing whether such changes in marijuana laws affect youth development. The goal of this project is to draw on existing state-wide data assessments to understand whether changes in marijuana-related legislation affect marijuana and other drug use by teens, as well as related risk factors such as drug use norms and availability. This R21 (exploratory/developmental) study will lay a foundation for a future nationwide examination of the impact of state-level marijuana legislation on marijuana-related risk factors and outcomes among youth.
