Using SMART Design to Identify an Effective and Cost-Beneficial Approach to Preventing Opioid Use Disorder in Justice-Involved Youth

Project Dates: 2019 - 2021

Project Description

The study targets the epidemic of problem opioid use disorder (OUD) among adolescents and young adults. It focuses on an underserved population with particularly high risks for and rates of OUD: adolescents and young adults in justice settings, who, according to some studies, have OUD rates of 20%. To reduce opioid use initiation and escalation to OUD, the study will implement and test the effectiveness of interventions of varying intensity that fall under the Adolescent Community Reinforcement Approach with Assertive Continuing Care (ACRA/ACC) framework.
