Case #5 - A 64 year old with progressive L leg pain

 
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
  1. Be able to demonstrate performance of a complete vascular examination.
  2. Be able to define intermittent claudication and localize potential sites of arterial compromise based on history and physical.
  3. Be able to discuss significance of peripheral arterial occlusive disease as a "marker" for disseminated arteriosclerosis with life threatening consequences.
  4. Be able to list major risk factors and discuss the importance of controlling these factors in prolonging life and preserving limb (medical management more important than limb intervention).
  5. Be able to outline the general principles of intervention (catheter-based and surgical).
