mHealth for Mental Health in the Middle East: Readiness in the West Bank

PROJECT COUNTRY PROJECT LEADERSHIP
West Bank Dror Ben-Zeev

Description

Palestinians in the West Bank are at heightened risk for mental health problems. The objective of this study was to examine whether mHealth approaches that leverage mobile phones for remote mental health treatment may be viable alternatives.
Limited availability of clinicians and a host of geopolitical, topographical, and infrastructural challenges create significant regional barriers to clinic-based care in Palestinians. We surveyed 272 individuals in the West Bank to investigate whether mHealth approaches may be feasible, and if so, which mobile intervention strategies would be of greatest interest to Palestinians contending with mental health problems.
