McAbee Award Call 2021

The Diabetes Research Center (DRC) at the University of Washington (UW) is soliciting applications for a postdoctoral fellowship designed to broaden participation in diabetes and related metabolic/endocrine disease research at the UW. This fellowship is made possible by an endowment from UW benefactors Dick and Julia McAbee, who were dedicated community leaders committed to the fight against diabetes.

Purpose:  To support the training of promising postdoctoral fellows in diabetes-related research.

Eligibility:  Postdoctoral fellows with M.D. or Ph.D. degrees engaged in full-time research training with UW faculty sponsors. The primary sponsor should be an active investigator in the area of the proposed research training and have sufficient research support and facilities available for the fellow to undertake high-quality research training.

Support:  One award is available, providing stipend and benefits based on National Institutes of Health postdoctoral fellowship guidelines.  The tenure of the fellowship is two years.

Funding begins July 1, 2021.

Application:  Prospective applicants must submit a mandatory letter of intent (LOI) that summarizes pertinent information needed to assess eligibility. In addition to the LOI, applicants will be required to submit a list of suitable reviewers. Please download the 2021 McAbee Letter of Intent Form and Reviewer Nomination Form. LOIs submitted in other formats will not be accepted.  Click here to download a copy of these instructions.

LOIs and reviewer nomination forms are due by January 20, 2021 and are to be uploaded below.

Eligible applicants will be given detailed instructions regarding the application process.  Applicants are encouraged to discuss their research plans with either Dr. Sakeneh Zraika (Director, P&F Programs) or Dr. Mario Kratz (Associate Director, P&F Programs) prior to submission.  Applications require approval by the applicant’s departmental chairperson or division head.  Approvals for human subjects, animal use and/or biohazards must be obtained prior to initiation of funding but are not required for submitting the application.
