Metformin helps prevent diabetes development in at-risk patients

A study in Diabetes Care showed that adults at risk for diabetes who took 850 mg of metformin twice daily had lower diabetes incidence rates over 15 years, compared with those on placebo. Researchers used a cohort of 3,234 patients from the Diabetes Prevention Program and the Diabetes Prevention Program Outcomes Study and found that metformin also led to a 41% reduced diabetes incidence among women who previously had gestational diabetes.Healio (free registration)/Endocrine Today (3/18)
