Friday Harbor Labs Open House

The annual FHL Open House is an event that is looked forward to by many in Friday Harbor. This past May we had a very large crowd from the island — and beyond! It seems the word is out. The FHL Open House is a fabulous way to see what exactly is happening at this unique marine lab in the San Juan Islands. If you didn’t make it this year, plan to visit in May 2014.

You may ask what is the Open House like? Research scientists and students at the FHL open their doors to the public (usually around 650 visitors) and explain details of their specific research. Families hop on board the Research Vessel Centennial. People of all ages make plankton tows from the end of the dock. SCUBA demonstrations and scientific lectures are also scheduled. If you ever wanted to know more about marine biology and this gem of a marine station, the FHL Open House is for you!
